It was not until April 1825 that the current borders were fixed. Migration to the county had begun several years before as Indiana had become a state in 1816. Tradition claims the first settlers were John Dunn, General Bartholomew, and the Beems who came in the fall of 1816, and Philip Hart who came in October 1816.
